Depending on which service best suits you and your pet’s needs, you can either see our Behaviour Trainer or one of our Behaviour Veterinarians for your initial consultation.

What to Expect from your Veterinary Behaviour Consultation

To see one of our Behaviour Veterinarians for an initial consultation, we book a 2.5-hour appointment during which time the vet will discuss your pet’s behavioural history, mental health assessment, and diagnosis.

The vet will then put together a treatment plan which typically involves a combination of management, behavioural modification programs, and medication if appropriate.

After the consultation, the vet will send a summary of your treatment plan and be available for some follow up support for the first 8-10 weeks.

Sometime after your initial consultation, we often recommend a 45-minute follow up session with our Behaviour Trainer. Together you will review management strategies and behaviour modification training to help your pet’s behaviour problem using evidence-based, force-free training methods.

To support you after the initial follow up period, we book a revisit consultation which is a 1.5-hour appointment, during which time we will review progress and build on the treatment plan.

Depending on the nature of your pet’s behaviour problem, continued behaviour modification training may be recommended.

What to Expect from your Behaviour Training Consultation

To see our Behaviour Trainer for an initial consultation, we book a 90-minute appointment during which time our trainer will discuss your pet’s behaviour with you.

Our trainer will then put together a treatment plan which typically involves a combination of environmental management strategies and the beginnings of a behaviour modification program using evidence-based, force-free training methods.

After the consultation, our trainer will send a summary of your treatment plan and provide some follow up support.

From there, follow up training sessions are 45-minutes, and we usually recommend scheduling your first session around 2-4 weeks later at which time we will review progress and build on the treatment plan.

As/if needed at any stage, you can book a subsequent review with one of our Behaviour Veterinarians which is a 90-minute appointment during which time the vet will review your pet’s behavioural history and current treatment plan, provide a mental health assessment, and discuss a diagnosis and medication if appropriate.

After the consultation, we will send a summary of your updated treatment plan and provide some follow up support for the first 8-10 weeks ahead of a revisit consultation.

Depending on the nature of your pet’s behaviour problem, continued behaviour modification training may be recommended.
